How I Asked my Future Wife to Marry Me.

I believe in miracles. The fact I am in a position to get married in eleven weeks time is proof of that.

I have autism. There are physical side effects to this, such as interference with the way my brain processes incoming visuals and audio. There is also a personality issue as well in that I was behind in emotional development. In other words, I did not know how to behave in a relationship and did not know how to maintain a healthy one. I had to learn and it was not easy.

But, despite all that, despite the years of frustration, I found someone. I found Ashley Thomas in the most unlikely of places, a free online dating site called Plenty of Fish. I apparently was not using it the way every other guy did in that they were trying to hook up. Ashley, for her part, was just trying to find someone to talk to. I stumbled across her profile and sent her a message early on the morning of Friday, March 11th, 2016. We talked. We exchanged phone numbers. We made friends on Facebook. We met in person on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016. We got into a relationship.

I understood from the beginning that this relationship had the potential to be something truly special. I made no secret of my autism right from the outset. I understood that the knowledge of my atypical mind had driven many potential dates away, but I wanted to be honest. She understood. I was able to truly be myself around her and I thrived in it.

Ashley moved out to Lawrence not long after we started dating so we could be closer to each other as I continued through school. It crossed my mind early on that I wanted to marry her, especially as I grew more comfortable with her and we got to know each other very well. We began to anticipate each other's actions and thoughts. I knew this was a relationship that was meant to last. In no time at all, she became my longest relationship.

I don't remember the exact moment I decided I wanted to spend my life with Ashley. But I do remember the moment I decided how I was going to do it. For months at the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, Ashley needled me for a ring. I was vague about how I was going to do it because at that time, I did not know how I was going to do it. I told her sometime in Spring, which for me is March 1st to May 31st.

On Thursday, February 9th, 2017, I was pushing carts at Walmart when it finally struck me. Our anniversary was a mere six weeks away on March 22nd and it happened to fall right during the middle of Spring Break. Taking her out on an anniversary date would be the perfect time.

The key was doing it. I had always imagined pulling an engagement surprise. Sure, she would know that a ring was coming, but she could not know the when or how. I crafted a plan; we would go to the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Missouri that day as part of our date. There was a lawn out in front of the museum that I would propose to her on.

On Thursday, February 23rd, after days of shopping online, I picked out the ring. I had it sent to Wichita, where I would pick it up when I was ready. In the first week of March, I started telling my family and friends that I was about to propose to Ashley so that they would not be blindsided. The surprise was meant for Ashley.

On Friday, March 10th, the ring was ready. I went down to Wichita to pick it up and came back to Lawrence. Now came the hard part, hiding it for twelve days and keeping my composure until then. It was torture. Sometimes I thought about whether I wanted to blow the secret early and propose to Ashley before the 22nd. But I was patient. I waited for the moment I had been planning for six weeks.

Wednesday, March 22nd finally arrived. We left for Lawrence and arrived at the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Ashley wholly unaware of what I was carrying in my jacket pocket. We went around the side of the building, trying to find the entrance. We ended up on the lawn I planned to propose to her at. I had wanted to look at some of the exhibits before popping the question, but we were already there and I could not keep it together anymore. The moment I had been looking forward to my entire life had arrived.

I looked out over the lawn and said what I had cooked up in my mind during the endless hours pushing carts. "Now this is the kind of lawn we could have if we were married. But for that to work, you have to answer the question I'm about to ask correctly."

I'm not sure if Ashley understood what was going on until I opened the box I had pulled out of my pocket and started to get down on one knee. My scheme had worked and she was totally caught off guard by it. She managed to nod and I slipped the ring on her finger.

It was the most terrifying and exhilarating moment in my life. But it worked out as perfectly as I imagined. We did not necessarily enjoy the museum after that as much as we could have, but that was because we were giddy over the engagement. Ashley could not stop staring at the ring.

That was the story of how I asked Ashley to marry me. The actual marriage will occur in June and much like when I asked Ashley to marry me, I'm already starting to count down by the hour.

2018 Championship Week Primer-Ivy

This is only the second year that the Ivy League has held a conference tournament. The conference had not had a tournament prior to this and gave the automatic bid to the regular season champion. In years like this year, there would have been a playoff game to break up the tie, though that no longer has a purpose with the tournament. The champion last year was Princeton, who will not have a chance to repeat this year.

The top four teams made the Ivy League tournament. The tournament will take place at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Semifinals-Saturday, March 10th
#4 Cornell vs. #1 Harvard
#3 Yale vs. #2 Penn

Final-Sunday, March 11th
Penn and Harvard split the season series this year, with each team winning at home. Since this game will be on Penn's home court, it stands to reason that they will do so again and make the NCAA Tournament.

Penn 74, Harvard 69

2018 Championship Week Primer-Big West

The Big West is another conference that can be placed in the grey area between low-major and mid-major schools. The Big West more often than not produces 15 or 16 seeded teams, but sometimes, they place a higher seed that can spring an upset, such as #13 Hawaii's win over #4 California in 2016. This year, the conference champion UC Davis is straddling the line between the 14 and the 15 seed, which means an upset is not impossible, but extremely unlikely.

The top eight teams advanced to the Big West Tournament and will compete in three rounds. The semifinals will be reseeded so the lowest seeded team will play the highest seeded team. The entire tournament will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#8 UC Riverside vs. #1 UC Davis
#5 Long Beach State vs. #4 Cal State Fullerton
#7 Cal Poly vs. #2 UC Santa Barbara
#6 Hawaii vs. #3 UC Irvine

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#6 Hawaii vs. #1 UC Davis
#5 Long Beach State vs. #2 UC Santa Barbara

Final-Saturday, March 10th
UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara beat each other on the others' home court during the season. However, UC Davis has won five games in a row whereas Santa Barbara dropped several games going into this tournament. I think that UC Davis will make the NCAA Tournament will make the tournament for the second time in a row and should have a more respectable outing than last year's trip.

UC Santa Barbara 67, UC Davis 73

2018 Championship Week Primer-WAC

The WAC was a modestly competitive conference a few years ago, but conference realignment ravaged their ranks and left the conference scrambling to replace what they lost. Now, the WAC is composed of a handful of veteran schools and half of what used to be the Great West Conference. Since realignment, no WAC team has won a game in the NCAA Tournament. New Mexico State will have a decent chance to win an NCAA Tournament game if they win this conference tournament as they are projected to be on the 12 line, which is a ripe place for an upset.

All eight teams will participate in the conference tournament that will take place in three rounds. The entire tournament will take place at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#8 Chicago State vs. #1 New Mexico State
#5 UT Rio Grande Valley vs. #4 Seattle
#7 Cal State Bakersfield vs. #2 Utah Valley
#6 UMKC vs. #3 Grand Canyon

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Seattle vs. #1 New Mexico State
#3 Grand Canyon vs. #2 Utah Valley

Final-Saturday, March 10th
New Mexico State has won the WAC Tournament and gone to the NCAA Tournament five out of the last six years. This streak started before the WAC saw its roster get turned over. I don't think this year will break that streak and the Aggies will make the NCAA Tournament yet again.

Grand Canyon 67, New Mexico State 78

2018 Championship Week Primer-American

Wichita State left the Missouri Valley and came to the American conference this year. The Shockers were expected to compete for the American regular season title in their first year in the league. However, with a one point loss on Sunday, Wichita State lost their chance to win the regular season title. That distinction instead went to the team that beat them: Cincinnati. The Bearcats, Shockers, and Houston are expected to represent this conference in the NCAA Tournament.

The tournament will feature all twelve teams playing in four rounds. The top four teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

First Round-Thursday, March 8th
#9 SMU vs. #8 Connecticut
#12 South Florida vs. #5 Memphis
#10 Tulane vs. #7 Temple
#11 East Carolina vs. #6 Central Florida

Quarterfinals-Friday, March 9th
#8 Connecticut vs. #1 Cincinnati
#5 Memphis vs. #4 Tulsa
#10 Tulane vs. #2 Wichita State
#6 Central Florida vs. #3 Houston

Semifinals-Saturday, March 10th
#5 Memphis vs. #1 Cincinnati
#3 Houston vs. #2 Wichita State

Final-Sunday, March 11th
It is fitting that the American final is a rubber match between the two best teams in the league. They each won on the other's home floor, which would make the idea of who would win on a neutral court anyone's guess. If the Shockers can get their defense going, then they will win this game and the automatic bid to the tournament field announced later that day.

Wichita State 65, Cincinnati 61

2018 Championship Week Primer-Conference USA

The Conference USA was overturned by conference realignment at the beginning of this decade, but in the end, actually gained more teams than they lost. One of the teams that transferred to C-USA was Middle Tennessee. In 2016, the Blue Raiders exploded onto the national scene as a dangerous mid-major when they toppled national title contender Michigan State in the first round as a 15 seed. They staged another upset last year, brushing aside Minnesota as a 12 seed. This year, Middle Tennessee may end up in the NCAA Tournament regardless of what happens in the C-USA tournament, but that is a theory they would not want to test.

The top twelve teams in the conference made the tournament out of a possible fourteen. The top four teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Southern Miss vs. #8 Florida International
#12 UTEP vs. #5 UTSA
#10 Louisiana Tech vs. #7 North Texas
#11 FAU vs. #6 UAB

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#8 Florida International vs. #1 Middle Tennessee
#5 UTSA vs. #4 Marshall
#7 Louisiana Tech vs. #2 Old Dominion
#6 UAB vs. #3 Western Kentucky

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Marshall vs. #1 Middle Tennessee
#6 UAB vs. #2 Old Dominion

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Middle Tennessee should be safe for the tournament if they make it to the final. Still, I don't expect the Blue Raiders to leave that to chance and will get the automatic bid by winning this game.

Old Dominion 62, Middle Tennessee 69

2018 Championship Week Primer-Big East

The Big East is not the sixteen team behemoth it once was, but it has not lost a step in competitiveness on the national scene. Villanova won a national championship in 2016 and this year, both Villanova and Xavier are expected to be given top seeds in the NCAA Tournament, which is the only conference with that distinction as of right now (The ACC would get two if Duke supplanted Kansas). Unless one or both teams lose before the Big East final, this current projection will not change either.

The Big East will feature all ten teams playing if four rounds. The top six teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place in Madison Square Garden in New York.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 St. John's vs. #8 Georgetown
#10 DePaul vs. #7 Marquette

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#9 St. John's vs. #1 Xavier
#5 Providence vs. #4 Creighton
#7 Marquette vs. #2 Villanova
#6 Butler vs. #3 Seton Hall

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#5 Providence vs. #1 Xavier
#3 Seton Hall vs. #2 Villanova

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Xavier and Villanova were miles ahead of the Big East this year, though they both took multiple losses during the season. Two of Xavier's three losses in conference were to Villanova in lopsided affairs. I would not be surprised if the Musketeers broke through this time, but it is more likely the Wildcats get the sweep and the automatic bid.

Villanova 84, Xavier 78

2018 Championship Week Primer-Big 12

If there was any year that Kansas should have lost the Big 12, this would've been it. The Jayhawks had a depleted roster and a far weaker interior presence than years prior, but managed to win the conference by two games anyway. It wasn't easy; the Jayhawks lost three home games and got swept for the first time in the Bill Self era. But somehow, they won the title and in doing so, set an NCAA record with 14 conference titles in a row.

The Big 12 Tournament will take place in four rounds with all ten teams. The top six teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Oklahoma vs. #8 Oklahoma State
#10 Iowa State vs. #7 Texas

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Oklahoma vs. #1 Kansas
#5 TCU vs. #4 Kansas State
#7 Texas vs. #2 Texas Tech
#6 Baylor vs. #3 West Virginia

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Kansas State vs. #1 Kansas
#6 Baylor vs. #2 Texas Tech

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Texas Tech has the ability to win this tournament and go far in March thanks to their defense. However, they've lost a step due to the POY candidate Keenan Evans suffering from a toe injury. Playing three games in three days won't help either. Kansas is the favorite to win the tournament, but with as brutal as the Big 12 has been, any team can win. I just have to make a deterministic choice.

Texas Tech 65, Kansas 68

2018 Championship Week Primer-SEC

Since 2010, the team that has won the SEC has either been Kentucky or Florida. This year, however, there was not only one new champion, but a second one as well. Auburn and Tennessee split the conference championship this year, while Florida and Kentucky remained well behind. Besides the new champion, the SEC is expected to send at least seven teams to the NCAA Tournament, much more than they have in recent years. This should not come as a surprise that the SEC is on the upswing given that they won the Big 12/SEC challenge for the first time this year.

All fourteen teams will participate in the SEC Tournament this year in five rounds. The top four teams received a double bye to the quarterfinals and the fifth through tenth seeded teams received a bye to the second round. The entire tournament will be held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#13 Vanderbilt vs. #12 Georgia
#14 Ole Miss vs. #11 South Carolina

Second Round-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Alabama vs. #8 Texas A&M
#13 Vanderbilt vs. #5 Missouri
#10 LSU vs. #7 Mississippi State
#11 South Carolina vs. #6 Arkansas

Quarterfinals-Friday, March 9th
#8 Texas A&M vs. #1 Auburn
#5 Missouri vs. #4 Kentucky
#10 LSU vs. #2 Tennessee
#11 South Carolina vs. #3 Florida

Semifinals-Saturday, March 10th
#8 Texas A&M vs. #4 Kentucky
#3 Florida vs. #2 Tennessee

Final-Sunday, March 11th
Tennessee swept Kentucky this year, something that has not happened in some time. Despite the difficulty in winning three games against the same team in one year, I think the Volunteers will be able to manage it and clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Kentucky 65, Tennessee 70

2018 Championship Week Primer-Southland

The Southland is expected to field a 16 seed in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. In recent years, that had not been the case; Brad Underwood led Stephen F. Austin to dominance in the Southland, which translated into higher seeds and even multiple tournament wins. But Underwood is gone now and the Southland as a whole has been negatively affected by it. Whether the Southland can become a threat in the NCAA Tournament remains to be seen, but it certainly isn't this year.

The Southland tournament will feature the top eight teams in the conference playing in four rounds. The top two teams received a double bye to the semifinals and the third and fourth seed got a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi vs. #5 New Orleans
#7 Central Arkansas vs. #6 Lamar

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#5 New Orleans vs. #4 Sam Houston State
#7 Central Arkansas vs. #3 Stephen F. Austin

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#5 New Orleans vs. #1 SE Louisiana
#3 Stephen F. Austin vs. #2 Nicholls

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Southeastern Louisiana is riding a long winning streak and it could not come at a better time. It got them a share of the conference championship and gave them the coveted double bye. The Lions have only been to the NCAA Tournament once and they are about to make a second time with a win here.

Stephen F. Austin 68, SE Louisiana 76

2018 Championship Week Primer-Atlantic 10

The Atlantic 10 saw much upheaval when realignment swept the college basketball landscape at the beginning of this decade. However, they managed to come out as one of the top mid-majors with 14 teams now, making the "10" a bit of a misnomer. This year, the A-10 is a bit down, with only two teams being seriously considered for the NCAA Tournament. With the seed lines these teams are straddling, it is entirely possible that the A-10 could pick up a win or two in the NCAA Tournament.

All fourteen teams will participate in the tournament in five rounds. The top four teams got a double bye to the quarterfinals and the fifth through tenth seeded teams got a single bye to the second round. The entire tournament will take place at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#13 Massachusetts vs. #12 La Salle
#14 Fordham vs. #11 George Washington

Second Round-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Dayton vs. #8 VCU
#12 La Salle vs. #5 George Mason
#10 Duquesne vs. #7 Richmond
#11 George Washington vs. #6 Saint Louis

Quarterfinals-Friday, March 9th
#9 Dayton vs. #1 Rhode Island
#5 George Mason vs. #4 Saint Joseph's
#7 Richmond vs. #2 St. Bonaventure
#6 Saint Louis vs. #3 Davidson

Semifinals-Saturday, March 10th
#4 Saint Joseph's vs. #1 Rhode Island
#3 Davidson vs. #2 St. Bonaventure

Final-Sunday, March 11th
Depending on whether St. Bonaventure could be said to be safely in the field at this point would determine whether the Atlantic 10 would be stealing a bid. If the Bonnies were out anyway, then this champion and Rhode Island would be the two teams in, if not, then there would be a bid thief that would shrink the bubble. I think that bid thief would be Davidson, who would make their first tournament appearance since 2015.

Saint Joseph's 71, Davidson 80

2018 Championship Week Primer-Pac-12

When Oregon upset Kansas in the Midwest Regional Final last year and made the Final Four, they were the first Pac-12 team to make the game's biggest stage since 2008. Another run seems unlikely this year, however, as the Pac-12 is down this year as compared to last year. The Pac-12 champion Arizona is hanging around the four or the five seed line, and there are only three or four teams projected to go dancing from this conference overall.

The tournament will have all 12 teams playing in four rounds. The top four teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Arizona State vs. #8 Colorado
#12 California vs. #5 Stanford
#10 Oregon State vs. #7 Washington
#11 Washington State vs. #6 Oregon

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Arizona State vs. #1 Arizona
#5 Stanford vs. #4 UCLA
#10 Oregon State vs. #2 USC
#6 Oregon vs. #3 Utah

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 UCLA vs. #1 Arizona
#3 Utah vs. #2 USC

Final-Saturday, March 10th
These crosstown rivals may or may not be on the good side of the bubble going into the tournament, so it is tough to say if the winner of this game could be considered a bid thief. Regardless, these two teams met at the end of the season with UCLA getting the win and I expect that the Bruins will do so again, which would be a nice bookend to a troubled season.

UCLA 78, USC 69

2018 Championship Week Primer-Mountain West

In 2013, the Mountain West had more teams in the NCAA Tournament than some power conferences and its champion, New Mexico, was a #3 seed in that tournament. Since then, the Mountain West has seen a steep decline in its standing among other conferences. In 2016 and 2017, the conference only had one team in the NCAA Tournament and will do so again unless somebody besides Nevada wins this tournament and steals a bid.

All eleven teams will take part in this tournament that will take place across four rounds. The top five teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Air Force vs. #8 UNLV
#11 San Jose State vs. #6 Wyoming
#10 Colorado State vs. #7 Utah State

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Air Force vs. #1 Nevada
#5 San Diego State vs. #4 Fresno State
#7 Utah State vs. #2 Boise State
#6 Wyoming vs. #3 New Mexico

Semfinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Fresno State vs. #1 Nevada
#3 New Mexico vs. #2 Boise State

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Nevada was not the runaway champion of the Mountain West like some other teams were in other conferences, but they still went 15-3 in this league and won the conference by multiple games. They're going to the NCAA Tournament regardless of this outcome. They will only make it a formality here.

Boise State 70, Nevada 77

2018 Championship Week Primer-Sun Belt

The Sun Belt has basically had its roster of schools overturned in the wake of conference realignment that rocked college basketball in the early years of this decade. The Sun Belt did not fold into insolvency, but instead picked up a number of teams from other conferences to replace those that were lost. Currently, there are twelve teams in the Sun Belt, which is a respectable number. The Sun Belt has fluctuated as far as its competitiveness in the NCAA Tournament as well. Sometimes, the conference fields a 16 seed, other years, the Sun Belt champion is as high as a 12, like Little Rock was in 2016 when they upset #5 seed Purdue. This year's champion, Louisiana, is projected to be around a 13 seed.

All 12 teams will participate in this tournament across four rounds. The top four teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Lake Front Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Texas State vs. #8 Coastal Carolina
#12 Little Rock vs. #5 Appalachian State
#10 South Alabama vs. #7 Troy
#11 Arkansas State vs #6 Louisiana-Monroe

Quarterfinals-Friday, March 9th
#9 Texas State vs. #1 Louisiana
#5 Appalachian State vs. #4 Texas-Arlington
#7 Troy vs. #2 Georgia State
#11 Arkansas State vs. #3 Georgia Southern

Semifinals-Saturday, March 10th
#5 Appalachian State vs. #1 Louisiana
#7 Troy vs. #3 Georgia Southern

Final-Sunday, March 11th
Louisiana won this conference by four games this year and was never truly threatened on their way to the Sun Belt title. It stands to reason that they would continue this trend through this tournament and make them a dangerous team to play in the NCAA Tournament. The Ragin' Cajuns will win this tournament, then sit back and watch their name be called on the Selection Show hours later.

Georgia Southern 74, Louisiana 82

2018 Championship Week Primer-SWAC

If there is a league in the NCAA that is disproportionately affected by APR sanctions, it is the SWAC. This year, two of the ten teams in this conference were ineligible for postseason play because of APR violations. One of these team, Grambling, happened to have won the conference this year. Though they won the regular season title, the Tigers will have no chance to play for an NCAA berth, nor even their reward for winning the regular season title in the NIT.

The remaining eight teams that are eligible will play in three rounds. The first round will take place at campus sites at the higher seed and the semifinals and final will take place at the Delmar Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.

Quarterfinals-Tuesday, March 6th
#8 Mississippi Valley State vs. #1 Arkansas-Pine Bluff
#5 Jackson State vs. #4 Southern
#7 Alcorn State vs. #2 Prairie View A&M
#6 Alabama State vs. #3 Texas Southern

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#5 Jackson State vs. #1 Arkansas-Pine Bluff
#3 Texas Southern vs. #2 Prairie View A&M

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Texas Southern has had modest success as SWAC teams go in this decade, notching a couple of regular season wins against power conference teams a few years ago. However, the last time a SWAC team won an NCAA Tournament game was in the play in game in 2010 and the last time a SWAC team got a win in the Round of 64 was in 1993. With the SWAC champion bound for the First Four, a win is possible, a second is extremely unlikely. But for these low major conferences, just getting there is the ultimate goal.

Jackson State 74, Texas Southern 80

2018 Championship Week Primer-ACC

Buoyed by a top recruiting class, Duke started the season ranked first in the nation and wide favorites to cut down the nets in San Antonio. It probably went without saying that they would take the ACC as well. However, the Blue Devils did not win the ACC, nor did they come even close. Virginia, picked sixth in the ACC, won the conference by four games and is the top ranked team in the country. Regardless of what happens in this tournament, the Cavaliers will most likely stay as the top seeded team in the NCAA Tournament, and the new favorite to cut down the nets next month.

All fifteen teams in the ACC will participate in this tournament that will take place in five rounds. The top four teams received a double bye to the quarterfinals, while the teams seeded fifth through ninth received a single bye to the second round. The entire tournament will take place in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

First Round-Tuesday, March 6th
#13 Georgia Tech vs. #12 Boston College
#15 Pittsburgh vs. #10 Notre Dame
#14 Wake Forest vs. #11 Syracuse

Second Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Louisville vs. #8 Florida State
#13 Georgia Tech vs. #5 NC State
#10 Notre Dame vs. #7 Virginia Tech
#11 Syracuse vs. #6 North Carolina

Quartefinals-Thursday, March 8th
#8 Florida State vs. #1 Virginia
#5 NC State vs. #4 Clemson
#10 Notre Dame vs. #2 Duke
#6 North Carolina vs. #3 Miami

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Clemson vs. #1 Virginia
#6 North Carolina vs. #2 Duke

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Virginia ran through the ACC this year, only losing one game to Virginia Tech. They have held opponents over the entire season to a staggering 53 points a game, not allowing a single opponent to get to 70 points all year. They may only average 67 points themselves, but with a defense like that, offense isn't necessary. This defense will be the reason the Cavaliers win this tournament, just as they won the regular season title.

2018 Championship Week Primer-MAC

It has been since 2012 since a MAC team won an NCAA Tournament game. This last win was from a spirited run by Ohio to the Sweet 16 where they took top seeded North Carolina to overtime before falling in the Regional Semifinal. The MAC champion Buffalo is currently projected along the 13 line, where upsets do occasionally spring. It is certainly possible; Buffalo played Syracuse and AAC champion Cincinnati extremely close earlier in the season.

The MAC tournament will feature all 12 teams playing in four rounds. The top four seeds received a bye to the quarterfinals. The first round will take place on campus sites on Monday, March 5th and the rest of the tournament will take place at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio from March 8th to the 10th.

First Round-Monday, March 5th

Buffalo and Toledo only played one game this year, a 104 to 94 win in favor of the Bulls. I do not think Toledo will be able to win the rematch and Buffalo will make its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years.

Toledo 80, Buffalo 86

2018 Championship Week Primer-MEAC

Though the MEAC has produced teams that have sprung two separate 15 over 2 upsets in the NCAA Tournament, the teams that come out of this conference usually have little chance of advancing in the Big Dance. The MEAC champion has won First Four games in 2013 and 2015, but the last win a MEAC team got in the Round of 64 was Norfolk State's win over Missouri in 2012. At present, the MEAC champion is projected to be in the First Four as a 16 seed, so a Round of 64 win seems unlikely again.

All 13 teams will participate in the MEAC Tournament, which will last four rounds. The top three teams (who all shared the MEAC regular season title) received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia.

First Round-Monday/Tuesday, March 5/6
#9 Florida A&M vs. #8 Howard
#12 Maryland-Eastern Shore vs. #5 Norfolk State
#13 Delaware State vs. #4 North Carolina A&T
#10 South Carolina State vs. #7 Morgan State
#11 Coppin State vs. #6 North Carolina Central

Quarterfinals-Wednesday/Thursday, March 7/8
#9 Florida A&M vs. #1 Hampton
#5 Norfolk State vs. #4 North Carolina A&T
#10 South Carolina State vs. #2 Bethune-Cookman
#6 North Carolina Central vs. #3 Savannah State

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 North Carolina A&T vs. #1 Hampton
#3 Savannah State vs. #2 Bethune-Cookman

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Bethune-Cookman was leading the conference for most of the season, but suffered a loss at the end of the season that threw the MEAC into a three way tie for the regular season title. That loss was to North Carolina A&T on Senior Night no less. The Wildcats will be looking for revenge and I believe they will get it and go dancing as a result.

North Carolina A&T 76, Bethune-Cookman 80

2018 Championship Week Primer-Big Sky

Montana represented the Big Sky conference in the NCAA Tournament three out of four years at the beginning of this decade, but has not gone dancing since 2013 when they were a 13 seed. This year, the Grizzlies are back on top of the Big Sky for the first time in years and will be looking to go back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in half a decade. Were they to make it, they are currently projected to be on the 14 line, an area where it is not impossible to spring an upset.

The Big Sky Tournament will feature all twelve teams playing in four rounds. The top four teams won a bye to the quarterfinals. The tournament will take place at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada on March 6 and March 8-10.

First Round-Tuesday, March 6th
#9 Montana State vs. #8 North Dakota
#12 Northern Arizona vs. #5 Northern Colorado
#10 Southern Utah vs. #7 Idaho State
#11 Sacramento State vs. #6 Portland State

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Montana State vs. #1 Montana
#5 Northern Colorado vs. #4 Weber State
#7 Idaho State vs. #2 Idaho
#11 Sacramento State vs. #3 Eastern Washington

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#5 Northern Colorado vs. #1 Montana
#3 Eastern Washington vs. #2 Idaho

Final-Saturday, March 10th
The only time Eastern Washington and Montana played resulted in a victory for the Eagles, which represented one of only two blemishes on Montana's Big Sky record. That game was also at Eastern Washington and the Grizzlies will be looking for revenge. Which is something I believe they will get.

Eastern Washington 67, Montana 73

Teams That Can Still Win a Conference Championship-March 4th

It's that time again! The regular season is winding down and I'm going to track the teams that can still win a conference championship in the 2017-18 season. This is a measure of the teams who are not yet mathematically eliminated and is not a view of who could practically win a title. Teams in Bold are conference champions. Italics are the teams that can only share a conference title.

Today is the last day of the regular season. The only title left that can be awarded is if Wichita State were to beat Cincinnati and claim a share of the American title.

2018 Championship Week Primer-America East

For the last couple of years, the America East has been dominated by the Vermont Catamounts. This year was no different, with Vermont winning the conference handily by three games, losing only one game to Hartford late in the season when the conference race was already decided. Vermont has proven it could be dangerous outside of the conference already; they took Kentucky down to the wire in Rupp Arena at the beginning of the season. Right now, they are projected to be a dangerous 13 seed.

The America East Tournament will feature the top eight teams in a three round tournament. The games will be hosted at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The semifinals will be reseeded so the highest seed will be playing the lowest seed.

Quarterfinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#8 Maine at #1 Vermont
#5 Stony Brook at #4 Albany
#7 UMass Lowell at #2 UMBC
#6 New Hampshire at #3 Hartford

Semifinals-Tuesday, March 6th
#4 Albany at #1 Vermont
#3 Hartford at #2 UMBC

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Straight chalk only rarely happens in tournaments, but this is a also a tournament hosted by home sites and each team that I have projected to win have already beaten their opponents twice this year. The America East was very by the books in that regard. The final will go the same way as well, with Vermont advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

2018 Championship Week Primer-The Summit League

Whereas most of the one bid leagues have little chance of winning, the Summit League usually sends teams dancing that have a shot to win. They have a recent upset in the tournament, when #12 North Dakota State beat #5 Oklahoma in 2014. This year, the Summit League champion South Dakota State is projected to land around the 13 seed line, certainly an area where an upset could spring, especially if the Summit League POY Mike Daum, who averages 23 points a game, has the game of his life.

All eight teams will participate in the Summit League tournament, which will have three rounds. The entire tournament will take place at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Quarterfinals-Saturday/Sunday, March 3rd/4th
#8 Western Illinois vs. #1 South Dakota State
#5 North Dakota State vs. #4 Fort Wayne
#7 Omaha vs. #2 South Dakota
#6 Oral Roberts vs. #3 Denver

Semifinals-Monday, March 5th
#4 Fort Wayne vs. #1 South Dakota State
#3 Denver vs. #2 South Dakota

Final-Tuesday, March 6th
South Dakota State was the best team of the conference from start to finish and I believe that this will continue in the tournament as well. Mike Daum will lead the Jackrabbits into the NCAA Tournament and be a legitimate threat to upset a higher seed.

Denver 72, South Dakota State 81

2018 Championship Week Primer-Colonial

In this century, the Colonial has had two teams make miraculous runs to the Final Four as an 11 seed. These teams were George Mason in 2006 and Virginia Commonwealth in 2011. However, both of these teams have used this success to move on to the Atlantic 10, and the Colonial has suffered for it. The last time a Colonial team won an NCAA Tournament game was in 2013, when James Madison won a First Four game as a 16 seed.

The CAA Tournament will feature all ten teams playing in a four round tournament. The top six seeds received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina.

First Round-Saturday, March 3rd
#9 James Madison vs. #8 Drexel
#10 Elon vs. #7 Delaware

Quarterfinals-Sunday, March 4th
#8 Drexel vs. #1 Charleston
#5 Towson vs. #4 William and Mary
#7 Delaware vs. #2 Northeastern
#6 UNC Wilmington vs. #3 Hofstra

Semifinals-Monday, March 5th
#4 William and Mary vs. #1 Charleston
#6 UNC Wilmington vs. #2 Northeastern

Final-Tuesday, March 6th
Northeastern had a seven game winning streak going into the conference tournament that helped them clinch a share of the regular season title. Charleston, however, had an eleven game winning streak that was only broken at William and Mary in overtime in the last game of the season. I think that Charleston will make the NCAA Tournament by winning this game.

2018 Championship Week Primer-Horizon League

Last year's Horizon League tournament was the epitome of March Madness. The last place team, Milwaukee, made a run all the way to the final game, where they lost to Northern Kentucky, who made the NCAA Tournament in their first year of eligibility. This year, perennial regular season champion Valparaiso is in the Missouri Valley and Northern Kentucky has continued their winning ways in taking the regular season championship.

All ten teams will be in the tournament, which will be played in four rounds. The top six seeds will receive byes to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at Little Caesars Arena in Detriot, Michigan.

First Round-Friday, March 2nd
#9 Youngstown State vs. #8 Cleveland State
#10 Detroit vs. #7 Green Bay

Quarterfinals-Saturday/Sunday, March 3rd/4th
#8 Cleveland State vs. #1 Northern Kentucky
#5 IUPUI vs. #4 Oakland
#7 Green Bay vs. #2 Wright State
#6 Milwaukee vs. #3 UIC

Semifinals-Monday, March 5th
#5 IUPUI vs. #1 Northern Kentucky
#3 UIC vs. #2 Wright State

Final-Tuesday, March 6th
Wright State had the lead in the conference for most of the season, only stumbling slightly late. Despite this, Wright State beat Northern Kentucky twice in close games. I'll think they'll do it again here and go to the NCAA Tournament.

Wright State 72, Northern Kentucky 70

2018 Championship Week Primer-West Coast

For the last two decades, one team has dominated the West Coast Conference and that is Gonzaga. There have been times when it looked like St. Mary's may upstage the Bulldogs, including this year, but at the end of the season Gonzaga usually is on top. This dominance does not just extend to the WCC; Gonzaga has earned #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament twice in the last five years and made a run to the National Championship game last year. While Gonzaga is down this year compared to last, they will still be a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.

The West Coast Conference has all ten teams in a four round tournament. The top six seeds received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will be held in Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

First Round-Friday, March 2nd
#9 Portland vs. #8 Loyola-Marymount
#10 Pepperdine vs. #7 Santa Clara

Quarterfinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#9 Portland vs. #1 Gonzaga
#5 Pacific vs. #4 San Francisco
#7 Santa Clara vs. #2 St. Mary's
#6 San Diego vs. #3 BYU

Semifinals-Sunday, March 4th
#4 San Francisco vs. #1 Gonzaga
#3 BYU vs. #2 St. Mary's

Final-Monday, March 5th
The West Coast Conference is top heavy, with Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and BYU all finishing 1, 2, or 3 for a very long time. It doesn't appear that the other teams of the conference will be able to upstage, leaving the conference final the same as it has been for the last three years prior to this. With the same result as well.

St. Mary's 68, Gonzaga 74

2018 Championship Week Primer-Southern Conference

It has been a long time since a Southern Conference team has won an NCAA Tournament game. The last time a Southern Conference team won in the Big Dance, Steph Curry was leading Davidson on a spirited run to the Elite Eight in 2008. Since then, Davidson has left, leaving the Southern Conference with teams that place in the lower tier of the bracket. This year's champion UNC Greensboro is projected as a 13 or a 14 seed, provided they win the conference tournament.

The Southern Conference will feature all ten teams playing in a four round tournament. The top six seeds won a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

First Round-Friday, March 2nd
#9 VMI vs. #8 The Citadel
#10 Chattanooga vs. #7 Samford

Quarterfinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#9 VMI vs. #1 UNC Greensboro
#5 Wofford vs. #4 Mercer
#7 Samford vs. #2 East Tennessee State
#6 Western Carolina vs. #3 Furman

Semifinals-Sunday, March 4th
#4 Mercer vs. #1 UNC Greensboro
#3 Furman vs. #2 East Tennessee State

Final-Monday, March 5th
Mercer and Furman our on long winning streaks coming into the tournament and I expect it to continue right into the final. In two games this year, Furman beat Mercer by three and twelve points and I expect them to win again in this final.

Mercer 67, Furman 73

2018 Championship Week Primer-MAAC

It has been a long time since the MAAC has seen success in the NCAA Tournament. The last time that a MAAC team won a tournament game was when #9 Siena beat #8 Ohio State in double overtime during the First Round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Since then, the MAAC has trended downward, including instances of fielding 16 seeds in recent tournaments. This year looks a little better than that; most bracket projections have the MAAC champion as either a 14 or a 15 seed in this year's tournament. Rider and Canisius split the championship this year and will be looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1990s.

The MAAC Tournament will feature all eleven teams playing in four rounds. The top five teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will be played in Times Union Center in Albany, New York.

First Round-Thursday, March 1st
#9 St. Peters vs. #8 Monmouth
#10 Siena vs. #7 Quinnipiac
#11 Marist vs. #6 Fairfield

Quarterfinals-Friday/Saturday, March 2nd/3rd

#7 Quinnipiac vs. #2 Canisius
#6 Fairfield vs. #3 Niagara

Semifinals-Sunday, March 4th
#4 Iona vs. #1 Rider
#6 Fairfield vs. #2 Canisius

Final-Monday, March 5th
Iona has represented the conference in the NCAA Tournament for four out of the last six tournaments, including once as an at-large bid. Rider and Canisius did not dominate the conference, so it is not hard to imagine a lower-seeded team like Iona using that experience to make a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Iona 80, Canisius 84

2018 Championship Week primer-Missouri Valley

For the last four years, Wichita State claimed at least a share of the Valley title, including two Arch Madness championships and an undefeated run through the conference in 2014. But now, the Shockers have moved on to the American conference and suddenly the teams of the Missouri Valley have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament without having to go through Wichita. The team that has seized this opportunity so far is Loyola-Chicago, who only joined the conference in the 2013-14 season.

The Missouri Valley tournament will feature all ten teams playing in a four round tournament. All of the games will be held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, hence the nickname, "Arch Madness"

First Round-Thursday, March 1st
#10 Valparaiso vs #7 Missouri State
#9 Northern Iowa vs #8 Evansville

Quarterfinals-Friday, March 2nd
#9 Northern Iowa vs #1 Loyola-Chicago
#5 Bradley vs. #4 Drake
#7 Missouri State vs. #2 Southern Illinois
#6 Indiana State vs. #3 Illinois State

Semifinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#4 Drake vs. #1 Loyola-Chicago
#7 Missouri State vs. #6 Indiana State

Final-Sunday, March 4th
The difference between second place Southern Illinois and last place Valparaiso was five games. The difference between conference champion Loyola-Chicago and Southern Illinois was four games. The Ramblers were head and shoulders above the rest of the league that mostly beat up on itself. I expect Loyola-Chicago to win their first Valley championship and make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since their Sweet 16 run in 1985.

Indiana State 62, Loyola-Chicago 69

2018 Championship Week Primer-Northeast

As the lower conferences go, the Northeast conference is usually among the very bottom. For five straight NCAA Tournaments, the NEC champion has been relegated to a First Four game as a 16 seed. Granted this gives these teams an opportunity to win that other lower conferences wouldn't have; NEC champion Mount St. Mary's won an NCAA Tournament game last year in the First Four for example. But outside of a possible win in Dayton, there is very little chance for a team from the Northeast to advance.

The top eight teams out of ten make the conference tournament, with all games being hosted at the higher seed. For the semifinals, the teams are reseeded so the highest remaining seed always plays the lowest remaining seed.

Quarterfinals-Wednesday, February 28th
#8 Central Connecticut at #1 Wagner
#5 St. Francis Brooklyn at #4 LIU Brooklyn
#7 Robert Morris at #2 Mount St. Mary's
#6 Fairleigh Dickinson at #3 St. Francis (PA)

Semifinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#5 St. Francis Brooklyn at #1 Wagner
#3 St. Francis (PA) at #2 Mount St. Mary's

Final-Tuesday, March 6th
The Wagner Seahawks did not lose a single game at home in conference the entire season, with the average margin of home conference victories being a comfortable 12.2 points a game. But this is March and in March, anything goes. Mount St. Mary's represented the conference in the NCAA Tournament and I expect them to use that experience to do so again.

Mount St. Mary's 74, Wagner 73

2018 Championship Week Primer-Big Ten

I'm not going to lie, it is weird to do a major conference tournament primer this early. In the years that I've done this, the high major conferences have always had their tournaments in the second week of Championship Week and the Big Ten has bucked that trend this year. The reason is simple enough; the Big Ten wanted Madison Square Garden for their tournament, but the Big East has had their conference tournament there for years. Even after realignment the reduced Big East still plays in the Garden. If the Big Ten wanted to play in New York, they'd have to do it a week early. Some comments could be made about why a formerly Midwestern conference with a geographic center roughly around Chicago would want to go out east anyway, but that's not why I'm here.

The Big 10 has been strong of late as far as conference rankings go. The Big Ten even had two teams in the Final Four in 2015, one of which played for a National Championship. However, the league still doesn't have a national title to its name since 2000 and this year the league has had a down year. Nebraska, who finished fourth in the league and earned a double bye in this tournament, isn't even safe for the NCAA Tournament, even though they won 13 conference games. The reason is simple; the NCAA's new quadrant system left the Big Ten short on quality wins. Even the top team in the league, 28-3 Michigan State, isn't expected to get a #1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament because of the lack of Quadrant 1 wins.

All fourteen teams will play in the Big 10 Tournament over five rounds. The top four teams received a double bye to the quarterfinals and the fifth through tenth seeds received a single bye to the second round. As mentioned before, the tournament will be held in Madison Square Garden.

First Round-Wednesday, February 28th
#14 Rutgers vs #11 Minnesota
#13 Illinois vs. #12 Iowa

Second Round-Thursday, March 1st
#9 Wisconsin vs. #8 Maryland
#12 Iowa vs. #5 Michigan
#10 Northwestern vs. #7 Penn State
#14 Rutgers vs. #6 Indiana

Quarterfinals-Friday, March 2nd
#9 Wisconsin vs. #1 Michigan State
#5 Michigan vs. #4 Nebraska
#7 Penn State vs #2 Ohio State
#6 Indiana vs. #3 Purdue

Semifinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#5 Michigan vs. #1 Michigan State
#7 Penn State vs. #3 Purdue

Finals-Sunday, March 4th
Purdue has had an impressive run during the season where they sandwiched a very long winning streak that saw them rise to #3 in the nation around multi game losing streaks. When they are playing at their best, however, the Boilermakers are one of the hardest teams in the nation to beat and I expect them to go back to their winning ways in the Garden and earn the Big Ten's automatic berth.

Michigan 65, Purdue 70

2018 Championship Week Primer-Ohio Valley

The Ohio Valley is the first conference tournament to be completed each year by having its final a full eight days before Selection Sunday. While it can be assumed many teams will have earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament no matter what by then, the Ohio Valley champion is still the first team to officially punch their ticket. Recently, however, advancing to their tournament has been the best achievement of the OVC champions as the conference has not won a tournament game since Ohio's run to the Sweet 16 in 2012.

The tournament will feature the top eight teams out of twelve in a four round tournament. The top two teams received a double bye to the semifinals, the next two seeds received a bye to the quarterfinals and the fifth through eighth seeds play in the first round. The entire tournament will take place in the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana

First Round-Wednesday, February 28th
#8 SIU-Edwardsville vs #5 Tennessee Tech
#7 Eastern Illinois vs #6 Tennessee State

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 1st
#6 Tennessee State vs #3 Austin Peay
#5 Tennessee Tech vs #4 Jacksonville State

Semifinals-Friday, March 2nd
#4 Jacksonville State vs. #1 Murray State
#6 Tennessee State vs. #2 Belmont

Final-Saturday, March 3rd
Belmont and Murray State had a sizable gap in the standings between the two of them and the rest of the field. Belmont beat Murray State earlier in the season, but since then the Racers have ripped off eleven straight wins, which gave them the outright Ohio Valley title when Belmont struggled down the stretch. Belmont, however, dropped a stunner last year in the tournament after dominating the league and will be looking for redemption.

2018 Championship Week Primer-Patriot League

When I started counting down the conference champions, I did not need to keep track of the Patriot League because Bucknell had already won the conference outright. The Bison won the Patriot League by an astounding four games, only dropping two games to Boston University and Lehigh. The Patriot League itself usually sends bottom seeded teams, but that has not necessarily stopped them; Lehigh and Bucknell both have major NCAA Tournament upsets to their name in this century.

The Patriot League will have all ten teams in a four round tournament. Each game will be hosted by the higher seed.

First Round-Tuesday, February 27th
#9 Army at #8 Loyola (MD)
#10 American at #7 Lafayette

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 1st
#8 Loyola (MD) at #1 Bucknell
#5 Boston University at #4 Lehigh
#7 Lafayette at #2 Colgate
#6 Holy Cross at #3 Navy

Semifinals-Sunday, March 4th
#5 Boston University at #1 Bucknell
#7 Lafayette at #3 Navy

Final-Wednesday, March 7th
Bucknell has been the best team of the conference from start to finish. While not impossible, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which the Bison do not go back to the NCAA Tournament. I believe that they will, making their second straight appearance.

Navy 68, Bucknell 79

2018 Championship Week Primer-Big South

While not as far down the pecking order as some other conferences, the Big South is a perennial one bid league. Last year's champion, Winthrop, managed to escape the bottom seeds lines and was a 13 seed, where they lost in the first round to Butler by 12 points. The last time that a Big South school won an NCAA Tournament game was 2011, when this year's conference champion UNC Asheville won a First Four game.

The Big South Tournament will feature all 10 teams in a four round tournament. The first round will be at campus sites, then the quarterfinals and semifinals will be hosted by UNC Asheville, and the final will be hosted by whoever is the highest remaining seed.

First Round-Tuesday, February 27th

#9 Presbyterian at #8 Charleston Southern
#10 Longwood at #7 High Point

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 1st
#8 Charleston Southern vs #1 UNC Asheville
#5 Liberty vs #4 Campbell
#7 High Point vs. #2 Radford
#6 Gardner-Webb vs #3 Winthrop

Semifinals-Friday, March 2nd
#4 Campbell vs #1 UNC Asheville
#7 High Point vs. #3 Winthrop

Final-Sunday, March 4th
Campbell made a spirited run to the Big South final last year as an underdog on the hot shooting of Chris Clemons. Clemons is still shooting hot, averaging nearly 25 points a game. This year, I believe that they will finish what they started and make it to the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in their history

#4 Campbell 80, #3 Winthrop 74

2018 Championship Week Primer-Atlantic Sun

Much like Vermont in the America East, Kansas in the Big 12, or Wichita State formerly in the Missouri Valley, the Atlantic Sun has been dominated over the past few years by one team, Florida Gulf Coast. Besides conference championships in the last two years, the Eagles have won the Atlantic Sun tournament in 2013, 2016, and 2017. The 2013 run was famous for the Eagles becoming the only 15 seed to ever advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

This year was no different. Florida Gulf Coast was one of the last teams in the country to take a loss in conference in two close home losses against Kennesaw State and Lipscomb. These losses, however, came after the Eagles had already won the conference title. Florida Gulf Coast had already clinched home court throughout the Atlantic Sun tournament at that point.

The Atlantic Sun tournament will see all eight teams participating in a three round tournament. The higher seed will host each respective game.

Quarterfinals-Monday, February 26th
#8 USC Upstate at #1 Florida Gulf Coast
#5 North Florida at #4 NJIT
#7 Stetson at #2 Lipscomb
#6 Kennesaw State at #3 Jacksonville

Semifinals-Thursday, March 1st
#4 NJIT at #1 Florida Gulf Coast
#6 Kennesaw State at #2 Lipscomb

Final-Sunday, March 4th
Lipscomb has been a hot streak of late, winning nine of their last ten games, including a win at Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles inexplicably allowed the Bisons 90 points in the home loss a week ago; the average points allowed for the whole season is 70. Don't expect that to happen again as Florida Gulf Coast makes the NCAA Tournament for the third time in a row.

Lipscomb 74, Florida Gulf Coast 80
