2018 Championship Week Primer-Southern Conference

It has been a long time since a Southern Conference team has won an NCAA Tournament game. The last time a Southern Conference team won in the Big Dance, Steph Curry was leading Davidson on a spirited run to the Elite Eight in 2008. Since then, Davidson has left, leaving the Southern Conference with teams that place in the lower tier of the bracket. This year's champion UNC Greensboro is projected as a 13 or a 14 seed, provided they win the conference tournament.

The Southern Conference will feature all ten teams playing in a four round tournament. The top six seeds won a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

First Round-Friday, March 2nd
#9 VMI vs. #8 The Citadel
#10 Chattanooga vs. #7 Samford

Quarterfinals-Saturday, March 3rd
#9 VMI vs. #1 UNC Greensboro
#5 Wofford vs. #4 Mercer
#7 Samford vs. #2 East Tennessee State
#6 Western Carolina vs. #3 Furman

Semifinals-Sunday, March 4th
#4 Mercer vs. #1 UNC Greensboro
#3 Furman vs. #2 East Tennessee State

Final-Monday, March 5th
Mercer and Furman our on long winning streaks coming into the tournament and I expect it to continue right into the final. In two games this year, Furman beat Mercer by three and twelve points and I expect them to win again in this final.

Mercer 67, Furman 73
