The Southland is expected to field a 16 seed in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. In recent years, that had not been the case; Brad Underwood led Stephen F. Austin to dominance in the Southland, which translated into higher seeds and even multiple tournament wins. But Underwood is gone now and the Southland as a whole has been negatively affected by it. Whether the Southland can become a threat in the NCAA Tournament remains to be seen, but it certainly isn't this year.
The Southland tournament will feature the top eight teams in the conference playing in four rounds. The top two teams received a double bye to the semifinals and the third and fourth seed got a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

Southeastern Louisiana is riding a long winning streak and it could not come at a better time. It got them a share of the conference championship and gave them the coveted double bye. The Lions have only been to the NCAA Tournament once and they are about to make a second time with a win here.
