2018 Championship Week Primer-MAC

It has been since 2012 since a MAC team won an NCAA Tournament game. This last win was from a spirited run by Ohio to the Sweet 16 where they took top seeded North Carolina to overtime before falling in the Regional Semifinal. The MAC champion Buffalo is currently projected along the 13 line, where upsets do occasionally spring. It is certainly possible; Buffalo played Syracuse and AAC champion Cincinnati extremely close earlier in the season.

The MAC tournament will feature all 12 teams playing in four rounds. The top four seeds received a bye to the quarterfinals. The first round will take place on campus sites on Monday, March 5th and the rest of the tournament will take place at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio from March 8th to the 10th.

First Round-Monday, March 5th
#9 Bowling Green at #8 Central Michigan
#12 Northern Illinois at #5 Kent State
#10 Ohio at #7 Miami (OH)
#11 Akron at #6 Western Michigan

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#8 Central Michigan vs. #1 Buffalo
#12 Northern Illinois vs. #4 Ball State
#10 Ohio vs. #2 Toledo
#6 Western Michigan vs. #3 Eastern Michigan

Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#12 Northern Illinois vs. #1 Buffalo
#6 Western Michigan vs. #2 Toledo

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Buffalo and Toledo only played one game this year, a 104 to 94 win in favor of the Bulls. I do not think Toledo will be able to win the rematch and Buffalo will make its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years.

Toledo 80, Buffalo 86
