The WAC was a modestly competitive conference a few years ago, but conference realignment ravaged their ranks and left the conference scrambling to replace what they lost. Now, the WAC is composed of a handful of veteran schools and half of what used to be the Great West Conference. Since realignment, no WAC team has won a game in the NCAA Tournament. New Mexico State will have a decent chance to win an NCAA Tournament game if they win this conference tournament as they are projected to be on the 12 line, which is a ripe place for an upset.
All eight teams will participate in the conference tournament that will take place in three rounds. The entire tournament will take place at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#8 Chicago State vs. #1 New Mexico State
#5 UT Rio Grande Valley vs. #4 Seattle
#7 Cal State Bakersfield vs. #2 Utah Valley
#6 UMKC vs. #3 Grand Canyon
Semifinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Seattle vs. #1 New Mexico State
#3 Grand Canyon vs. #2 Utah Valley
Final-Saturday, March 10th
New Mexico State has won the WAC Tournament and gone to the NCAA Tournament five out of the last six years. This streak started before the WAC saw its roster get turned over. I don't think this year will break that streak and the Aggies will make the NCAA Tournament yet again.
Grand Canyon 67, New Mexico State 78
