2018 Championship Week Primer-Mountain West

In 2013, the Mountain West had more teams in the NCAA Tournament than some power conferences and its champion, New Mexico, was a #3 seed in that tournament. Since then, the Mountain West has seen a steep decline in its standing among other conferences. In 2016 and 2017, the conference only had one team in the NCAA Tournament and will do so again unless somebody besides Nevada wins this tournament and steals a bid.

All eleven teams will take part in this tournament that will take place across four rounds. The top five teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The entire tournament will take place at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada.

First Round-Wednesday, March 7th
#9 Air Force vs. #8 UNLV
#11 San Jose State vs. #6 Wyoming
#10 Colorado State vs. #7 Utah State

Quarterfinals-Thursday, March 8th
#9 Air Force vs. #1 Nevada
#5 San Diego State vs. #4 Fresno State
#7 Utah State vs. #2 Boise State
#6 Wyoming vs. #3 New Mexico

Semfinals-Friday, March 9th
#4 Fresno State vs. #1 Nevada
#3 New Mexico vs. #2 Boise State

Final-Saturday, March 10th
Nevada was not the runaway champion of the Mountain West like some other teams were in other conferences, but they still went 15-3 in this league and won the conference by multiple games. They're going to the NCAA Tournament regardless of this outcome. They will only make it a formality here.

Boise State 70, Nevada 77
